Afghanistan admits to 3,500 military deaths in 2020: Reverberations of Obama

The government of Afghanistan acknowledged that over 3,500 security forces have been killed since February peace talks. These talks resulted in a frayed peace agreement between America and the Taliban. However, on the ground, the fighting continues unabated despite minor truce agreements.

President Ashraf Ghani announced a ceasefire between government force and the Taliban to cover Eid al-Adha. The recent number of deaths expressed by the government means that at least 32,000 security forces have been killed since 2015. Therefore, the strain is enormous.

Under the presidency of Barack Obama, his policies helped to destabilize Egypt, Libya, and Syria. In turn, nations of the Sahel are struggling to contain the convulsions of the Libyan failed state.

ISIS (Islamic State) also emerged on the watch of Obama. Thus his destabilization of Syria – with other Gulf and NATO powers (notably Turkey) – meant new convulsions in Iraq and the enslavement of the Yazidis by ISIS.

Likewise, Obama pulled out the majority of American troops in Afghanistan in 2014 and the reverberations continue today. Hence, the government of Afghanistan is fighting an uphill battle to contain the Taliban and other Sunni Islamist forces.

Voice of America reports, Afghan forces have sustained an increase in the number of casualties since late 2014 when the U.S. and the U.S.-led coalition ended their combat mission in Afghanistan and withdrew most of their troops. The U.S. has since decreased its troops to 9,800, and the coalition focused on advising, training and assisting the Afghan security forces.”

Ghani, naturally angry about the ongoing situation, pointed to the endless deaths of security forces, civilians, and attacks against the vestiges of the government. At the same time, anti-Shia attacks happen frequently by the Taliban and ISIS.

The leader of Afghanistan said, “What kind of peace dividend is this? What does it say about intentions?”

Overall, Obama’s legacy of destabilization with the willing partners of several Gulf and NATO powers is reverberating today. Hence, parts of the Middle East, North Africa, the Sahel – mass immigration to Europe – and Afghanistan are witnesses of his foreign policy legacy.

This even includes black Africans being enslaved by Arabs in Libya after this nation was destabilized.
