Germany in Shock: Many People Killed in Munich Attack but Motives Remain Unclear

Tragedy hit Munich after a young adult, believed to be a German-Iranian individual, killed nine people. The lone gunman shot randomly at people before seemingly killing himself but an autopsy is needed to confirm this. Therefore, with another recent attack in Germany, it is clear that these are dark days for this nation irrespective of the causes.

Sadly, the final death total may increase because twenty people remain injured, of which three of these are in a critical condition. Given this reality, many families and friends remain in turmoil.

Unlike other recent terrorist attacks, from Libya to Syria, or within the continent of Europe, the terrorist angle isn’t clear at the moment. This is based on the reported words of the killer.

He states, according to reports, “I was bullied for seven years…now I have a gun.” Equally important, if he was a terrorist, then why did he kill himself? Also, if he hails from an Iranian background, then clearly Iran is at war with ISIS by proxy in Iraq and Syria.

Voice of America says “Friday’s attack took place four days after a 17-year-old Afghan refugee attacked passengers with an ax and a knife on a train in the German city of Wuerzburg. The teenager wounded four people before police shot him dead. Islamic State later claimed responsibility for the attack.”

Sadly, the above reality means that many Germans are fearful about the current internal situation in this land. In this sense, the fear factor is increasing dramatically and this will lead to further strains within the body politic of modern day Germany under Chancellor Merkel.

At the moment, it is too early to say if the attack was inspired by religious fervor, or if based on alienation, bullying, mental health issues – or other possible factors. It could well be that a video will emerge about the true motives of the killer. Until then, the only reality is speculation.
