The prefecture of Aichi will declare a State of Emergency between August 6 and 24 based on increasing coronavirus (Covid-19) infections. This notably applies to Nagoya and the surrounding region. Therefore, this will affect many Japanese people who return home during the Obon period.
Hideaki Omura, the Governor of Aichi, is requesting people to refrain from cross-prefectural travel. Similarly, to desist from all non-essential trips within Aichi outside of emergencies.
It is known that special attention is being placed on Nagoya. Thus the business angle will be hit once more. However, with increasing infections – and growing concerns in other prefectures – then Omura had little option.
The upturn from the middle of June is clear by the growing number of people hospitalized. On July 1 slightly less than 700 people were hospitalized. Yet this figure by early August is over 4,000.
Hence the first national State of Emergency worked in reducing infections dramatically by early May. However, the nightlife angle, sex entertainment districts, and other factors mean that Japan squandered a chance to ease the economic, social, and psychological pressure.
Overall, Omura is seeking to contain the crisis in Aichi like other governors. Despite this, the central government still isn’t providing the legal mechanisms for him to enforce. Thus like the first State of Emergency that covered the entire country, the onus is on law-abiding people.
