The nation of Guinea announced the country is facing an Ebola epidemic. This announcement was made after three people died from this potent virus.
It is known that at least four other people are now fighting for survival from the ravages of Ebola. Hence, with more than 11,000 people dying from Ebola in West Africa after it began in Guinea during the period 2013 and 2016, the political leaders of this nation have taken urgent action
Sadly, the burial of a nurse appears to be the cause of the known Ebola outbreak. Thus, three people died after attending the burial of the deceased nurse and becoming infected with Ebola. Therefore, with the cause known, the political leaders of Guinea seek to curtail the epidemic.
The BBC reports about the past epidemic of 2013 and 2016 by stating, “In response to that epidemic, which mainly affected Guinea and its neighbors Liberia and Sierra Leone, several vaccines were trialed, which have since been successfully used to fight outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of Congo.”
The Health Ministry of Guinea announced, “The government reassures the people that all measures are being taken to curb this epidemic as quickly as possible.”
The New York Times reports, “Spread through contact with an infected or recently deceased person’s bodily fluids or secretions, the Ebola virus causes a hemorrhagic fever with an average fatality rate of about half, though two vaccines are now available against it.”
Only last week, two people died of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
However, the health care system in Guinea and the World Health Organization are better prepared than in the past. Therefore, it is hoped that greater awareness and targeted vaccinations will contain the crisis.
