A leading Islamist, allegedly involved in the Jolo terrorist attack against Christians, handed himself into the authorities of the Philippines. It is believed that Kammah Pae feared being killed by security forces that are searching for members of the Islamist terrorist group Abu Sayyaf. Hence, after a recent shoot out between Islamists and the armed forces, it is believed that Kammah Pae feared being killed by the security forces of the Philippines. His capture – along with 4 others who handed themselves in – is welcomed by the political and military elites of this nation.

It is believed that two nationals from Indonesia did the brutal terrorist attack after being guided and protected by members belonging to Abu Sayyaf. If so, this will alarm both Indonesia and the Philippines because it shows the links that exist.

Voice of America reports, The attack has renewed terrorism fears across the Philippines and the national police have been placed on full alert and security has been strengthened in churches, shopping malls and other public areas. President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered troops to destroy the Abu Sayyaf, leading to a renewed military offensive in the south that has included air strikes and gun battles.”

The brutal terrorist attack against the Roman Catholic Cathedral of Our Lady of Mount Carmel on the island of Jolo led to the deaths of more than 20 people. This Islamist terrorist attack against a holy place follows on from the recent brutal murder of two Buddhist monks in Southern Thailand. Therefore, with the Islamist terrorist link between the Philippines and Indonesia working in tandem, the fear is that more international Islamists attacks will happen throughout this part of Asia.

The Chief of the Philippine National Police, Oscar Albayalde, uttered, “They are seeking funding and they are bombing, kidnapping and murdering targets to get funds from ISIS.”

Abu Sayyaf is hoping to ferment sectarian violence in this part of the Philippines. Hence, it is essential that domestic and international Islamist terrorist links become crushed by the security apparatus of several nations that face the same bloodthirsty threat.
