President Obama of America espouses human rights at home, gun controls, the rights of homosexuals, equality for women, transgender rights, and he whitewashes the reality of Sunni Islamic terrorism by manipulating language. However, the real Obama can be seen by his military sales to the most draconian, anti-female, anti-Shia, and anti-non-Muslim nation on this planet. This applies to the nation of Saudi Arabia where women face being whipped if not covered from head to toe – and where all non-Muslim holy places are banned.
In other words, like many politically correct leaders who smile to the compliant mass media, his words and deeds lack any conviction whatsoever. For example, he visits Laos based on noble reasons in relation to the past mass bombing of this nation by America. However, true to the nature of Obama, he sells Saudi Arabia more military arms in order for this nation to continue to slaughter innocents and destroy the infrastructure of Yemen.
Reuters reports, “U.S. President Barack Obama’s administration has offered Saudi Arabia more than $115 billion in weapons, other military equipment and training, the most of any U.S. administration in the 71-year U.S.-Saudi alliance, a report seen by Reuters has found.”
Rand Paul, a Republican senator who represents Kentucky, is extremely concerned by the human rights record of Saudi Arabia. Also, Rand Paul fears a possible military arms race in the region based on current conflicts that are being made worse by the shortsighted policies of certain political governments.
The senator from Kentucky says, “Saudi Arabia is an unreliable ally with a poor human rights record. We should not rush to sell them advanced arms and promote an arms race in the Middle East.”
The Guardian reports, “Paul, and his colleague on the Senate foreign relations committee, Democratic senator Chris Murphy, have been critics of US policy in Yemen and of providing Saudi Arabia with the logistical and military support it has asked for.”
This media group further says, “Yemen, already the Middle East’s most impoverished country before the onset of war, has since been left on the precipice of famine, while more than 2 million people have been displaced from their homes, according to a tally by the Associated Press.”
Rand Paul is clearly dismayed by the approach being taken by Obama. After all, not only is Saudi Arabia involved in the utter devastation of Yemen but this nation is also supporting various sectarian Sunni Islamist forces in Syria. Similarly, the nation of Saudi Arabia is involved in spreading Sunni Takfiri ideology to many nations based on Sunni Islamist educational facilities, manipulating religious based charities to spread militancy, training zealous clergy who then indoctrinate – and a host of other negative factors.
Yet, despite the deplorable human rights record of Saudi Arabia where not one single Buddhist temple or Christian church is allowed – and where brutal beheadings are carried out, alongside the genuine fear of women being whipped if not covered up from head to toe – the Obama administration is still focused on increasing military arm sales to this nation despite the reality of modern day Saudi Arabia. In other words, the brutal bombing campaign and killing of civilians in Yemen by the Saudi Arabia led coalition doesn’t concern the Obama administration to any major degree. Likewise, Obama’s human rights record at home doesn’t apply to the most draconian nation on this planet that crushes religious and female freedoms around the clock.
Reuters says, “The report said U.S. arms offers to Saudi Arabia since Obama took office in January 2009 have included everything from small arms and ammunition to tanks, attack helicopters, air-to-ground missiles, missile defense ships, and warships. Washington also provides maintenance and training to Saudi security forces.”
Other nations, including Sunni-led countries supporting Saudi Arabia and leading NATO powers including the United Kingdom, are systematically ignoring international law by supporting the brutal coalition against Yemen that is led by elites in Riyadh. The upshot of this is the open destruction of schools, mass killings of children, the terrible loss of life to civilians, the utter devastation of an already weak infrastructure – and other brutal realities. Therefore, politicians like Rand Paul seek to stem the tide of this misery by pressurizing the Obama administration into stopping the brutal military sales to Saudi Arabia.
True to the nature of Obama, his legacy of being pro-liberal at home is being offset by his utter callous approach to the crisis in Yemen. If truth were told, the real legacy of Obama is his military sales to Saudi Arabia based on all that this entails.
