Typhoon Haishen is passing through Japan and causing havoc throughout the region of Kyushu. The Yamaguchi prefecture is also feeling the forces of the typhoon in the Chugoku region of Honshu.

In total, over 500,000 homes have been left without power. The majority of these homes being in Kyushu. However, approximately 48,000 homes have also been left without power in Yamaguchi. Therefore, vast numbers of people have been affected by the severity of Typhoon Haishen

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe urged people to use caution at all times. Hence, people have been told to hunker down until the typhoon leaves the southwestern areas of Japan.

Abe said, “To all citizens, especially those who are living in areas which have a high possibility of river flooding or high tides, please stay alert to the information from your local authorities. And please take immediate action, to ensure your safety, to protect your life.”

Warnings of possible mudslides have been issued in the prefectures of Kumamoto, Miyazaki, and Tokushima. Similarly, parts of Nagasaki have been warned. Therefore, until the storm passes – and daylight emerges – the true extent of the damage remains unknown.

Roughly 1.8 million people have been evacuated in parts of the prefectures hit by Typhoon Haishen. This applies to Fukuoka, Kagoshima, Kumamoto, Miyazaki, Nagasaki, Oita, and Saga.

Currently, the true extent of the damage isn’t fully known because now it is 7 am local time in Japan. Therefore, more information will be gathered throughout the day.
